My Story: local people have their own stories to tell.

Interview with Alison

Alison

Why did you start going to church?

I was invited to a local Sunday School by friends when I was in Junior School. I enjoyed it and kept going even when those friends stopped.

When would you say you became a Christian?

By the age of 10 I had come to love God and wanted to do things He wanted. Rather than a specific instance, it was more a gradual process for me.

What sorts of things were you involved in as a young person?

After finishing Sunday School at 14, I was invited to help in the under 5s class and later became a class teacher. I also joined the church's small youth group and enjoyed an active social life with those friends. At 16 I was asked to help resurrect my school's Christian Union - that was a real challenge but was very good for me.

Why are you so involved in children's work in the church now?

My experience as a child brought me into relationship with God and I want every child to have that opportunity today. God gives each of us our own unique character for a reason and I think He put me together the way I am so that I can be involved in sharing His love with children.

What hopes do you have for the children you work with?

My biggest hope for them is that they will discover how wonderful God is and how much He loves them. I hope all of them will make the most of the potential they have and have the courage to be people who stand for what is good and right even when others around them do not.

What's next?

At the moment we are looking at ways to increase the church's opportunities to work with children in other villages near here. That will involve changes in my work life and new challenges, but God's timing is always right and thankfully His help is always available.
